So. Open enrollment occurs next month for my university insurance. On a whim, and because I care about Peter's health, I inquired about health insurance coverage for opposite-sex domestic partners who are dependent on the employee's income (for survival... not kidding).
Here is their response:
"Domestic partnership benefits only apply to same sex couples, so unless you get married, you will not be able to add him to your benefits at this time."
That is it. That is all she wrote. REALLY? I have seriously just been discriminated against. I don't know why, but this makes me so angry, I want to punch someone.
What they are telling me, essentially, is "Get married or GET LOST."
This should NOT be the reason that we get married. Really. I understand why they have this policy, but I DO NOT agree with it. It leaves out all those individuals who either do not want to get married or, like us, cannot afford to get married right now.
UNFAIR.
There is my rant for the day.
